Getting to Know Laura

A fun fact about yourself:

“Whenever I play the lottery, I genuinely convince myself that I’ve won. Every single time!”

A little backstory about achieving your Level 7:

“I have worked in residential child care for over 17 years, and throughout my career, I’ve always questioned why so many people leave their jobs—whether to job hop or change industries completely. As leaders in this sector, we understand the massive impact this has on the young people we work so hard to support.

When I had the opportunity to conduct research for my Level 7, I wanted to explore this issue deeply—how can we, at Dimensions Care, better understand staff retention, drive positive change, and ultimately improve outcomes for both our team and the children we care for?

I conducted interviews with those who had left the sector to understand their reasons and, just as importantly, explored what made others stay. Through this process, I developed and implemented strategies to create meaningful change. The results have had a lasting impact, reinforcing the importance of leadership, valuing people, and fostering a supportive environment.

One key takeaway from my research is that people work for people—strong leadership and a positive workplace culture are at the heart of staff retention. And while my research may be complete, our work at Dimensions Care is never done. We will always push ourselves to grow, learn, and adapt so that we remain focused on what truly matters.

Despite not considering myself academic, there were at least three moments when I felt like giving up. But I’m so glad I didn’t. Completing my Level 7 has given me a profound sense of pride and accomplishment. I’ve always encouraged others to strive for growth and development, yet I never gave myself that same push. Now, I know that investing in myself was worth it—not only for my own growth but because the work I’ve done will have a lasting, positive impact on others.”

At Dimensions Care, we believe in pushing, motivating, and supporting each other to be the best we can be. The climb is always worth it—because when we reach the top, we get to take in the view and appreciate how far we’ve come.
